DVD Review: Anejo vs SMB 1990 All-Filipino

Anejo vs SMB 1990 DVD
Many yearn to relive the halcyon days of 80’s-90’s-style PBA basketball and for good reason. In what I’d like to call  “The Great Overlap” years between 1987-1997, the “Originals” of the PBA (Jaworski, Fernandez, Co, Cezar  et. al) play side-by-side with the historic “Second Wave” of PBA immortals (Patrimonio, Calma, Codinera, Lastimosa, Caidic et. al). Since this period involves pioneer PBA players of mythical status, this phenomenon shall remain an unparalleled, one-time-only cosmic event. And because 1987-1997 remains so unique, intense, and celebrated, many encapsulate the PBA in the 80’s and 90’s with the teams they remember best led by the players they reminisce about the most. What I learned from Tony Blair

BY MACKY ESCALONA March 27, 2009 | 08:26AM

Although, Tony Blair has long left the country, I think it’s still important for anyone who’s heard his talk, share what he has discussed. No one can question Tony Blair’s wit and charisma. The former prime minister is a great speaker who even managed to bring in his good-mannered humor in his talk. I was really hoping that he would go into detail, give more specifics, but the former Prime Minister decided to give things a broad, academic, and insightful take on leadership’s role in the global world we are living in.

Sports Book Review: The Magnificent Seasons by Art Shamsky

BY MICO HALILI March 23, 2009 | 01:28PM

The Magnificent Seasons by Art Shamsky

Art Shamsky was an outfielder/first baseman for the Miracle Mets of ‘69. Unlike Bill Bradley of the ‘69-’70 New York Knicks, Shamsky was strictly a former athlete, not a writer. As such, his book “The Magnificent Seasons,” reads like a  personal journal. Sincere it is. Lyrical it is not. Read the rest of this entry »

The Perks of being a baller Pt 2: Girls and more girls…?

BY MACKY ESCALONA March 20, 2009 | 02:20PM

It still amazes me how one current PBA Basketball player (name will remain anonymous) was able to have both his girlfriend and his girlfriend on the side together, in his car after a PBA game. This player told the girlfriend that he was just offering to help a fan who didn’t have ride home. When I found out about this story, I couldn’t help but laugh and be amazed. What it was like inside the car? Was it awkward central? How did the conversation go? If I could just plant a hidden voice recorder so I may listen to them. Intriguing right?

There is stereotype that basketball players are “players” with girls and that beautiful women surround the profession. What’s the real score? Read the rest of this entry »
