Laker Fans flash the (Foam) Finger

BY MICO HALILI December 29, 2009 | 09:49AM

The scene was comical. Some considered it shameful. I thought it was hilarious. Give-away foam hands were tossed like frisbees inside the Staples Center. The highly-anticipated Christmas day duel between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James turned out to be a dud.

wapakman-movie-poster.jpg

‘Twas the day after Christmas in 2009 (well, only several days ago, to be exact) and I wandered into a cinema and plopped down to see a movie I’ve actually been waiting for, for months: the Solar Entertainment-produced, Topel Lee-directed, Manny Pacquiao-starrer Wapakman.

I had seen the trailer months ago and it was actually quite impressive; not like the typical Pinoy blockbuster trailer that gave away the entire plot plus a bag of salted peanuts. The selection of shots for the trailer almost made the film look foreign, and very promising, to say the least. Read the rest of this entry »

Battle of PBA Point Guards

BY MICO HALILI December 16, 2009 | 06:09PM

I recently asked around if LA Tenorio appeared to be Alaska’s next Johnny Abarrientos. Naturally, the question elicited varied comments. Most reactions, however, were leading up to yet another argument. Is Tenorio the best point guard in the PBA today? And if not, who is? Read the rest of this entry »

Hello world!

BY LIA CRUZ December 16, 2009 | 01:20PM

So.

This is a bit awkward.

Yep, no idea what I’m doing here either.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lia Cruz. I look like I’m 16, but trust me, I’m legal. I work in the TV and broadcasting industry: a talker by profession but a writer at heart. I like literature, film, 90s alternative music, Flaming Hot Cheetos and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (bring back the Sticks!). Read the rest of this entry »
